Think niche. There is a good chance that unique niche has a unique domain name waiting for it.
Maybe mis-spelling. There is no rule which says you cannot make substitutions or changes to any word. For instance, “4″ replaces “for”. There are many more to consider.
How about a hyphen? Perhaps www.mybigwebsite.com is taken, buy www-mybigwebsite.com is still available. At first glance, the second resembles the first quite well.
Ride the wave. Let’s say you are maketing a product called Click Pictures which has the website of www.clickpictures.com. You could setup www.theclickpictures.com.
Build a review site. Affiliate marketers use this ploy frequently. Rather than try and register, myipodresale.com, they register ipodreview.com. That way they can advertise and sell multiple related products.
